My post was rather tongue in cheek.
Let me know if you find any decent Anschutz, Walther or FWB going for £50. I'll buy everyone you can lay your hands on for that money. :)
Fortunately I had a good BR scope in the safe and have all the reloading gear, front rest etc. I would of just needed to invest in some mico adjustable dies, and source a suitable rifle. There are some fantastic bargains to be had if you look around especially from the USA. Yeah I know all about the export problems but then I was going to start before they all kicked in. You tend not to fire the same quants of ammo in fullbore BR, so the ammo costs when compared to r/f are only slightly higher. I suppose an advantage is I wouldn't have to factor in range fees for testing out to 600m.
Having some fun and sharing knowledge is what its all about for me too. Its just at present I have little knowledge to share, but I'm hopefull that will change in the very near future.
I'd be checking out the US forum classified for a front rest as well as their version of ebay. Freight bumps the costs up but you do buy cheaper over there. _________________ "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. Andy I will be getting one of the new rests that Deben are now going to be distributing. It's called I think the Black Granit. The rest is fully adjustable with a windage top and weighs in at 11 Kgs (approx 25 lbs). The price will be £279.99 all in and should be avilable from your local Deben stockist from some time in June. The will also be doing a lighter one without the windage top or a bag which IIRC will reatil for around the £100 mark. I have seen the photos of them on the dealer flyer that my RFD friend has been sent and they look quite nice.
When my son was 15 I bought him an Anschutz 1411 complete with sights, a hard case (somewhat damaged but useable) and a shooting mit, all for £50 for his birthday (he's 18 now), and it shoots fine. It did need a new extractor and ejector. The new ejector I bought cost me about a tenner, The extractor was replaced by Anschutz at a NSRA meeting when I had the rifle serviced by them, that cost me £5. As part of the service he also adjusted the headspace, which was a bit of a shock as the method of adjustment was to hit the bolt body with a 5lb hammer until it had streached a little in length.
Yes I was lucky to get it at that price; I got it from another club member. Saying that my club bought 2 secondhand Anschutz rifles as club guns from another local club that was folding for £100 each last summer so a good deal can be had if you keep your eyes open and your ear to the ground.

£5 to have a guy wellie your bolt body in order to adjust the headspace sounds like over charging to me. Had they never heard of shimming?
Joe Cowan makes great rests and they are very competitively priced. Perhaps that should read Joe Cowans students make great rests. You need to place an order as they only make a limited number each year but they are worth waiting for. Joe is a very helpfull guy to deal with and provides great customer service. _________________ "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. Tag they also fitted new extractor, check the trigger mech and checked the sights for backlash. This service was carried out by a gunsmith from the Anschutz factory, they send a guy over every year to the NSRA meeting. So I guess that the "Bashing it with a hammer" is the official method. When he started bashing it he just keep repeating "Don't worry just fix headspace" sometimes I guess that his apperent lack of good english and my TOTAL lack of German can be a benefit so I think the £5 was worth it.

There are some gestures that just transcend any language barrier. :P
I had a similar experience about 20 years ago with a set of very expensive Ping golf clubs. A very well known golf pro at the time suggested altering the loft angle on a couple of my clubs. When we returned to the club house he took me in to the pro shop workshop and preceded to stick the clubs in a vice and give the necks clubs a hefty smack with a bloody great hammer saying "this shouldn't take a minute" whilst grinning like a cheshire cat at the look of horror on my face. It did work, but I've never forgotten the "experience". _________________ "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.
